Dr Finola E. Cliffe - Postdoctoral Researcher
B.Sc. and Ph.D.

Research Interests

Drug discovery, Disease Modelling, Cell Culturing, Microfluidics, Bioenergy and Biofuels Research

Finola has previously held positions as Research Scientist with Monaghan Biosciences Ltd., Research Assistant with the Molecular Glycobiotechnology Research Group at NUI, Galway, QC Engineering Technician with Vistakon Pharmaceuticals and as Environmental Laboratory Technician at Janssen Pharmaceuticals. She also has experience in lecturing at the University of Limerick.

Her background covers a range of areas, particularly in mammalian, bacterial and fungal cell culturing, drug discovery, biopharmaceutical production, process optimisation, enzyme production, bioenergy/biofuels research and scale-up of processes. Her current position involves working as part of an interdisciplinary team of 10 people including engineers and scientists. Research activities include a number of thematic areas including cell culture (induced pluripotent stem (iPS), cancer and bacterial), disease modelling, compound screening, drug discovery, high-throughput screening and microfluidics

Finola was awarded her Ph.D. in Biopharmaceuticals in 2010 from the University of Limerick where she also obtained a B.Sc. in 2005 in Environmental Science. She is the author of 5 scientific publications and is a dedicated member of several societies including the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) and Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland (ESAI).
